Bandai breaks from the tradition of action-based Gundam games and tries their hand at an RPG where Gundam mechs may be used in strategic battles and customized for enhanced performance during turn-based encounters. Taking place after a global devastation that has ravaged civilization, the survivors are rebuilding and technological reinvention has progressed quickly. The story in True Odyssey departs from the tried and true escapades of the One Year War and is set sometime in the future where the Glory System has come into being. With the proper plans, the G-System may be used to create new technologies and it is through this breakthrough that Gundam mech comes into being. Alas, malcontents have devious plans for the G-System and a youthful hero and a band of friends are needed to address the threat. Take control of a red-haired lad named Trush who teams up with a green-haired gal known as Ithi, a blue-haired girl who answers to Tremie, and other uncommonly named friends. Using the G-System, Trush builds a Mobile Suit of his own and it's up to Trush and gang to prevent potential tyranny. Trush's Gundam at the outset of the game is a beginner's model but the mech may be upgraded with higher level parts to enhance its performance on the battlefield. Weapons consist of guns, energy axes, and shields for a measure of protection. Encounters feature opposing sides arrayed against each other in a turn-based tactical set-up. Select an attack and the Gundam will lunge forward to inflict damage. The action goes on until one side is defeated. A wide range of Gundam mechs appear in the game including the RX-78, MRX-009, Zaku MS-07, Zaku MS-06F, and many more.
