Update: January 31, 2007 «©NCSX» The glittering knights of Saint Seiya face off against each other in 3D battles that hew closely to the Hades Saga from the Sanctuary to the Inferno arcs. The storyline is based on the manga original although the game is peppered with animation spooled from the televised series. Two main game modes are featured at the outset but three additional modes may be unlocked eventually:1) Story Mode: Join Pegasus Seiya and Mu in the first chapter where they face off against Death Mask and Specters. 2) Versus Mode: Choose a fighter from five possible characters (at the outset) and battle through a total of 26 combatants. In addition to the two game modes, a Gallery Mode which contains exactly one available piece of artwork may be viewed but additional works, animations, and BGM may be unlocked by meeting certain conditions while playing the game. Bonus Schwag All orders for the Saint Seiya Meiou Hades game will ship with a collapsible Saint Seiya Memory Card holder which features Dragon, Phoenix, Pegasus, Cygnus, and Andromeda on its five viewable sides. NCS Game Notes » The memory card data file takes up 78KB.» An announcer yells out the CERO warning text, and the words Bandai, Dimps, etc during the boot process as the logos come up. » In the intro to the game, CG rendered versions of the Saint Seiya crew are running towards the screen before the logo appears followed by some action poses of the cast dressed in golden armor. Various action shots are shown followed by the bad Specter guys in dark colored armor. » Press START on the title screen and cherry blossoms waft across the screen. The following selections are available: STORY....... Dive into the intrique and drama of the Hades Saga VERSUS..... Challenge the COM-controlled player in a bout ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? GALLERY.... Load/Save data, controller configuration, adjust sound volumes, set match length, etc The ??? sections are not viewable at the outset of the game but may be unlocked by meeting certain conditions in the game. » The playable character roster at the outset of the VERSUS MODE is as follows: Pegasus Seiya Dragon Shiryu Cygnus Hyoga Andromeda Shun Phoenix Ikki An additional 21 characters are shown on the character selection strip in shadow that must be unlocked before they can be used. » Five locales are selectable as fighting stages in VERSUS MODE but an additional 6 may be unlocked. » Before a level begins, a menu listing the special attacks is shown for a second before it disappears and the game starts. » Before a battle, the fighter pose and mutter sweet nothings to each other. » Either the d-pad or L-analog may be used for movement. The button controls are: TRIANGLE.... Projectile attack SQUARE...... Weak attack CROSS....... Medium attack CIRCLE...... Strong attack L1-TRIGGER.. Power-up R1-TRIGGER.. Block » The action runs fast and there's loads of special attacks and animated attack sequences to keep things exciting but the fighting itself is flighty. » When you knock an opponent out, he has a chance to revive by smashing the face buttons. A slow-motion sequence also plays when you knock an opponent out where he's blown backwards in bullet time as the camera pans away to take in a dramatic shot of the brutal beat down. After each successful battle, the fighter poses with some arm waving action and you're ranked on your performance. » The text that the announcer says before a battle is: "Ready," "Burn." » Moving the d-pad or l-analog down or up will make your fighter orbit around the opponent at an equidistant radius. To close the distance, move left to head on in for the battle. » The fighters scream and yell often when throwing punches and taking them. All of the spoken dialogue from the fighters is in Japanese but the announcer speaks "You Win" and other text in English. » The Story Mode begins with a static image and a voice over spoken by an old dude in a straw hat. As the story goes, it was 243 years ago when Athena sealed the Lord of Hades away but the seal has weakened. Hades' minions of 108 diabolic knights are seeking his revival. » The first sequence in Story Mode features a gold armored warrior with pink hair named MU walking into the Sanctuary which is surrounded by columns. MU is holding his gold helmet under his right arm. He stands in front of an altar of some sort when a dark cloaked Specter enters the scene and confront him. It's Death Mask followed by Aphrodite. The camera pans out to reveal three more cloaked figures on an elevated position above. After a loading sequence, a blue haired guy with purple eyebrows and purple sparkling armor appears. Pegasus Seiya joins the party and the dark robed malcontents are taken by surprise and intonate "Seiya!" in chorus. After some dialogue, a battle begins between Pegasus and Death Mask. » The columns in the first level are destructible. Bash them and they'll cause the ground to rumble as they fall downwards into nothingness. » After destroying Death Mask, the game prompts you to save your progress to memory card. » Immediately after the battle, Death Mask is still talking to Pegasus Seiya and Pegasus falters. » In the next level, MU challenges Death Mask. MU fights in a very elegant manner with subtle strokes and genteel arm motions. His posture is perfect. After defeating Death Mask, Aphrodite immediately rushes into battle. When she gets beat down, her goddess says "Afuro-dee-tee" as she slowly revives. » In the next battle, MU faces off against Shura followed by a battle against Camus followed by a battle against Saga. Between the various battles are interaction sequences and dialogue between the Specters and MU. After the battle with Saga, a lengthy sequence plays which is capped by a static images that move the Hades storyline along accompanied by a voiceover and text underneath the static images. . » After MU's fighting stages, the next battle pits Gemini against Saga with you controlling Gemini who wears more gold than Midas.
