NCS Game Notes * In the introductory save-data screen, a poster shows an old bloke holding his hands over his ears while exhibiting a pained expression. *The introduction video to the game shows a short live video of guitar handling and eventually a big strum to end it. * Game options are CAREER / QUICKPLAY / MULTIPLAYER / TUTORIALS / OPTIONS. Upon choosing CAREER, six axe handlers may be chosen as your virtual strummer but two characters require unlocking before they can be used. The characters are: 1) AXEL STEEL, who the game describes as an old school shredder. AXEL lives for beer and playing rock 'n roll. He wears a death skull t-shirt covered by a denim jacket and ripped up jeans. 2) CLIVE WINSTON - A virtuoso inspired by 70s British guitar royalty. Clive sports shaggy locks and wears amber tinted glasses. His clothing is ornate... 3) Judy Nails - Alternative rocker who has been touring since the tender age of 17. Judy is a redhead and wear goth well. 4) Johnny Napalm - Punk rocker with a green spiky mohawk and wrecked clothing. 5) Pandora - aka the Dark Princess of Rock who wears blue hair and blue leather pants. 6) Xavier Stone - May be Terence Trent Darby's long lost brother. Uses African and Middle Eastern techniques in his guitar playing. * Guitars that may be used at the outset of the game include the Gibson Les Paul, the Gibson Flying V, and the Gibson SG. A little history and color on the guitars may also be read and digested for your edification. * When playing a live session, songs that are available include "I Love Rock n' Roll," "I Wanna be Sedated," "Thunder Kiss 65," "Smoke on the Water," and "Infected." In order to unlock additional songs, one must beat 4 out of the 5 songs. * Upon opening a set, the camera pans down on the rocker and the crowd. Perform well and the energy of the revelers rise but botch the cues and rowdy boos will sound out from the crowd. The cues run down quickly on a conveyer and one must hit the proper notes in order to register them for accuracy and complete the song. If hitting all the notes properly, you'll be reward with a "YOU ROCK!" sign and a newspaper page will appear with the headline, "Community upset over loud music, parties" while the rest of the paper will include your star rating, note streak, score, and percentage of notes hit. During the game, if you miss a note, you'll hear it in the "doink" sound effect. * The presentation of Guitar Hero is beautifully done and the music selections are a who's who of American and British rock. Kudos to Harmonix for a worthy rhythm game contender.
