«©NCSX» Originally released for the Japanese Sega Saturn back in September 1996, Taito revives the game for another go on the PS2. In Langrisser III, players take the role of an aspiring knight with super-spiky hair named Diharuto Krauss. As the game begins, winged hawk knights from the Raucus Kingdom mount an attack inside the Flying Castle and it's up to Diharuto, Tiaris, Jeriou, Wiriamu, and foot soldiers under their command to fight back. The enemy leader named Arutemvuraa is on a quest to destroy a crystal in the Flying Castle and Diharuto just has to survive the waves of enemies until the crystal is cracked. The battle is fought in a tactical theater where Diharuto and Tiaris are controlled by the player but allies are completely CPU controlled.

The player has no precise control of the battles however - it is only possible to select an attack and then watch the battle play out as offense and defense is plied by both sides. After the level is completed, Tiaris asks Diharuto a number of questions and his answers will affect her affinity towards him. The questions are important because near the end of the game, the amount of affinity that a girl feels towards Diharuto will affect who he ends up with as a love interest. There are five potential mates in the game: Tiaris, Furea, Rifanii, Luna, and Sofia.

Please note: The 22-page booklet which contains profiles and artwork of the main characters in the game is no longer available.

The alternate SKU number for this product is SLPM-62689.

NCS Game Notes
* The animated intro which shows the various characters from behind a frosted lens which appears to be identical to the Saturn original. Sadly, we don't have a copy of the Saturn version on hand this morning to compare.

* Press Start and the following options appear: START - Begin new game / LOAD - Load save game data / Album - 41 pieces of animations and data collections / Option - Set difficulty, Pcm, etc. At the end of each successfully completed mission, new artwork is added to the Album.

* Voice acting accompanies each text snippet.

* Scenario 1 - A battle ensues when winged knights attack humans in a stone castle. Use the "O" button to select a unit and then move to the highlighted parameter of range. Once selected, the unit won't move automatically but will do so once you select the movement option which ends the turn. Both sides take turns for movement and attack modes.

* Battles are fought in strategic battles but they are viewed in a 3D representation where enemy volleys and attacks are shown in animated motion. As attacks fester out, the Dual Shock shakes. When units are killed during the course of war, they'll sort of jump out of the group and blink out of existence. The first battle is lengthy as both sides struggle for the upper hand and as units prove to be more resilient than expected.
