«©NCSX» In Domremy, France, the village is burning and blue orcs are on the attack. All that stands before them is a blonde maiden in haus frau clothing who's capable of laying down some serious damage. In the early goings in the mission, brilliant fireflies flit upwards from the flames in the village and course through the air in straight trajectories. Battles are fought on 3D tactical arenas where players move three characters at the outset and attack the orcs and their leader. The game is based on the legend of Joan of Arc and mixes fact and fiction for an engaging experience with crystalline graphics and brilliant visual effects.

When its time for action, players highlight the active character with a blue square and tap the O button once. A menu appears with movement and attack options. To move, press O on the top option and lighted blue grids overlay the countryside or town which shows the range of movement. Sidle up next to an enemy and attack with the usual tactical conventions where your attack is more effective from the side or behind the target than if you face it head-on.

When attacking, the camera zooms in on the blow being meted out and the enemy is given a chance to automatically counterattack. If he misses, an animation will show Jeanne or another character leaning back and swerving to avoid the blow. Attacking from behind will occasonally avoid a counterblow. Once killed, the orc seemingly gives up its last breath and heaves forward before collapsing into a clump on the ground.

NCS Game Notes
» After the first kill, players may view a cinema where Jeanne transforms into a fully armored avenging angel with a majestic sword and the look of the Valkyries about her. She also glows with luminescence and her attack skills are bumped up. After Jeanne transforms, she can attack two more times in direct sequence but her transformation is temporary. She'll revert to normal fraulein form after 3 turns. After she kills the armored enemy captain, she will have gained three levels (236 EXP) in addition to about 100 Gold.

» Orcs give up gold after they're killed which is automatically collected.

» When team members are contiguous to each other, they'll form a "Connection Guard" which enhances their defensive power to fend off an attack when anyone is targeted by an enemy. NCS generally keeps all party members close to each other whenever possible although enemy archers that need to be killed require breaking up the party into cadres or hunting parties of sorts.

» Swirling "Burning Sites" increase the attack power of anyone standing on the highlighted area. They appear randomly and change positions after each turn.

» To rotate the camera around the battlefield, press and hold the L or R trigger and the view will swivel.

» This cannot be emphasized enough but the visuals in Jeanne D'Arc's first level are glittering jewelry. The luminosity of the burning flames, the mottled scenery, and the delicious blending of intense light in some areas with shadowy darkness in other areas is a treat to behold.

Another legend of Jeanne D’Arc saving the world
In ages past, there once was a Death Wars where human beings fought against the demon king. Five brave warriors used the powers of the holy bracelets to successfully seal the demon king and the death gods in the holy jewel. Time flew to France of the early 15th century, in what would be known as the Hundred Years’ War between England and France. Jeanne, who was born in a border village, suddenly heard instructions from God and defeated monsters that were attacking the village. At that moment, a bracelet similar to one of the holy bracelets worn by the five brave warriors in the Death Wars was suddenly worn around her wrist. Under the guidance of God, in order to save France, Jeanne set forth to the city where the crown prince resided with her companions. What would Jeanne’s destiny be?
