Update: July 20, 2005 «©NCSX» Grab your PSP with both hands and rotate it 90 degrees counterclockwise. Next, with your left hand firmly grasping the PSP, use your right hand to insert the Star Soldier UMD into the unit. Wait a few seconds and Hudson's remake of Star Soldier soon glimmers on the screen in vertical aspect glory.Game Controls D-pad or Analog nub / Ship movement O or SQUARE Button / Fire primary weapon X or TRIANGLE Button / Activate secondary weapon At home, one might have trouble rotating a 300 lb WEGA on its side to play a vertical shooter in the aspect that it was designed for. Failing manual tv rotation, one would have to be content with a squat screen bound by black borders on the sides. On the PSP, there are no such restrictions although the shots are a bit clumsy to fire off. Upon starting the game, select one of three ships: A.Caesar - An orange and grey cruiser which blasts a 5-way shot. It's secondary weapon is a forward thrusting spear. Enigma - A blue and metal color bruiser which fires forward shots and billows out flames from the side. Rijndael - A back-loaded ship which has a weak forward shot but might backwards shots. Its secondary weapon is a forward laser blast. Since the Enigma has the most powerful forward-shooting weaponry out of all three fighters, players can use it to earn an 80,000 bonus by destroying the mid-level boss in the first level within 3 seconds of it constructing itself from parts. The end level boss in the first level can be destroyed in 20 seconds flat with a fully powered-up Enigma. Shoot, dodge, bob, and weave through armies of enemy flyers and their bullets. Once the minor foes are dispatched, deal with end level bosses who put up more of a fire fight. The first mid-level boss is a disembodied blue head which shoots white spheres from its eyes and the end-level boss is a blue and gold UFO which mixes scatter shot with laser streams. It's not much of a threat but the crossfire may confuse beginners. View the back cover and screenshots. This document is ©NCSX 2005. All rights reserved.
