«©NCSX» Baby Blue does it just as well as Big Blue and to this end, Capcom shrinks Rockman into a pocket-sized version of himself. The new incarnation of the marquee platform hero sports rounded physical features, bright blue eyes, and a cherubic quality that threatens to force other publishers to try their hand at pocket-size versions of their own heroes. For example, imagine tot Sonic, infant Samus, Crash Bandicoot tyke, and baby Bomberman. In Capcom's own camp, baby Dante and Onimusha are possibilities for the wonder years treatment.

Rockman Rockman is a pastel colored remake of the original Rockman game from 1987 where the blue suited hero faces off against the minions of Dr. Wiley. While Capcom could have gone the quick and dirty route with a facile visual revamp, they've included two versions of the game in RockmanČ - a full blown Rockman remake with new game features as well as a version of the updated Rockman that plays true to the original game. Capcom adds two bosses to the original crew of six - Oil Man and Time Man, who bring new skills to the platform action. The bosses are also playable once they've been dominated by Rockman.

To retain the game play qualities of the original game, Capcom hasn't tinkered with the mechanics and Rockman's moves are rudimentary like the original. There's no dash move or wall sliding to accompany the basic jump and blaster shots that Rockman started out with. To spice up the action, a Challenge Mode features 100 Rockman exercises with targeted objectives that require completion within a set amount of time. Finally, to extend the value of the game, a Construction Kit allows gamers to create their own levels and trade them with swappers on Capcom's online service.

NCS Game Notes
* After booting the game, a bunch of super-deformed Rockman munchkins rush around and assemble the Capcom letters to form the company's logo.

* In the title screen, childlike voices yell out "Rockumon Rockumon" followed by chipper music that would be suitable for a parade.

* The first exercise in "Challenge Mode" has Rockman jumping and running across a bunch of elevated platforms to reach the other side. If Rockman should fall, there's no way to jump up on the elevated platforms and he'll have to retrace his steps to start from the closest ledge that will allow him to jump back up on an elevated platform.

* Only ten challenges in "Challenge Mode" are available at the outset of the game as indicated by the row of Rockman heads. As bosses are beaten in the normal game modes, their challenges will be unlocked and playable also. If you tire of a challenge or can't finish it, press the SELECT button and Rockman will blow up and you'll exit to the menu above your current threshhold.

* The game may be controlled through the D-pad or the analog nub. NCS preferred the d-pad for tighter control but your mileage may vary.

Karl Rocco (3): Rockman from the past for the future!
Judging by Sony's past, I would highly doubt that you could download levels or even Roll from a japanese server... but with the addition of being able to play the entire game with the bosses after you defeat the game is a great feature in it's own right. what I think most of us megaman fans are waiting for is the constrution aspect. To me making your own levels can halt boredum you know what I mean? This game is deffinately worth the purchase! Easily this game gets four stars. Mainly for game play and originality.
