In a last ditch effort, the gods sacrificed themselves to create the Grim Angels who put an end to the war and locked the demons away. After the carnage, the power of the gods remained in the holy isle of Riviera. A thousand years pass and the memories of the great war have faded. However, there are signs that the demons are slowly infiltrating the world once more. To counter the impending threat, heroes Ecthel and Ledah venture off in an adventure to prevent the potential destruction of Riviera, aka the Paradise Land. The game is broken up into simple movement, quest, and attack phases. Choose to move by pressing the "B" button and the heroes will automatically move as if the page were being flipped. Arrows delineate where the heroes may move and generally only one path is available per screen. If a treasure chest is encountered in an new area that the heroes have walked into, the Quest mode can be triggered by pressing "A" which allows one of the heroes to open up to chest and plunder its contents. Bonus Schwag All orders for Riviera Special Edition will include a bonus "Rivera Designer's Works" hardcover booklet which chronicles the artwork from the different versions of Riviera released between 2000 and 2006. NCS Game Notes » The game begins with a prologue of the story of Ragnarok as imagined by the producers of the game. The prologue text is accompanied by a woman's voice over and static images. » The selections on the title screen are: Game Start / Begin a new game Continue / Resume a game from memory stick Game Start (Much Exp) / Locked game mode which requires unlocking Extra Contents / Seven sections blocked by ?????s which must be unlocked » Start a new game and another prologue plays which is accompanied by the same woman's voice over. Once the first stage comes into view, two adventurers and their pet cat with bat wings walk into view from the southwest. Soon afterwards, a snarling purple wolf confronts them and the first battle commences. Before the attack, you'll be able to choose an item from your inventory to use in battle. Attacks and magic blasts are shown right on the world map where strikes and magic are shown with spot animations. After the battle, a bluish hooded imp which hovers above the ground appears in front of the party and commiserates with the party before disappearing. The next battle pits the party against three opponents including a mighty mite who swings a hammer to knock hundreds of HP off both party members. After defeating them, you'll have to retreat to the previous location and then proceed back to the northeast. Read through the tutorial, select Quest and then push up on the D-pad to move northward and leap off the side of the platform. » The game consists of simple movement phases followed by battle sequences. » There's full voice acting throughout the game. » The blonde main character Ledah automatically regenerates 250 HP each turn. After each successful battle, the HP of both Grim Angels are regenerated entirely. » An overdrive attack can potentially knock out over 1000 HP and is accompanied by an animated sequence.
