«©NCSX» On the Day of Judgment, the Goddess descends from heaven and seeks to destroy the world. As she begins to wreak havoc and ignite billowing explosions, a cloaked figure dares to oppose the Goddess and launches a crystalline attack upon the gigantic deity. When that first strike is warded off with no damage to the Goddess, the cloaked attacker tries another tack. She draws upon herself and summons a mighty sword which appears above the Goddess. Using all of her power, she launches the sword in a rotary spin which chops off one of the Goddess' wings. Wounded and clearly perturbed, the Goddess' path of destruction is halted and she folds her remaining wings above herself for a lengthy slumber. That was a thousand years ago. The cloaked figure who saved humanity was named The Witch of Crystal and her warning to future generations is to be wary of the gods for another Day of Judgment is on the horizon... Valhalla Knights 2 Battle Stance is a 3D adventure game where players create a customized character and go on a quests in a medieval land. Encounters may literally be walked into while exploring since creatures such as carrot-munching rabbits and winged insects roam the land and are waiting for victims. In the early going, players will have to do a bit of monster killing near town to build up attributes and gain experience as well as gold. Once your hero has enough wherewithal to explore beyond town however, over 100 quests await which include search and retrieve missions and standard killing forays. When traveling, heroes may activate Crystal Gates which allow for quick transport between key locations. Bonus Schwag

» At the outset of the game, Valhalla Knights 2 Battle Stance follows the conventions of RPG design to a tee. You'll create a character and then churn around town killing creatures, gaining experience, and increasing attributes in order to level up. Once leveled up, the protagonist is eventually capable of moving beyond the protective sphere of the town. » The battles in the beginning are fairly challenging because of the way the combat system is designed. Your attacks are meted out in real time which means the enemies also attack in real time. When ranging close to an enemy, it'll attack once your hero is close enough so it's common to take damage. To add to the challenge, the beginning character's HP isn't much. For example, the heroine we created for this morning's test had 23 HPs but when facing two rabid rabbits, their concerted attacks take off at least 5 HP per strike. You're looking at losing 10HP every time those mangy rabbits pounce. » When the hero is killed in battle, he'll automatically be transported back to the inn. The innkeeper looks a lot like the portly merchant Toruneko of Dragon Quest fame. Note that all of your gold is taken away when defeated in battle. » There's a treasure chest near town which will yield 1000G. » If you're sneaky enough to creep up behind a monster and attack, the beast will take damage before the battle starts. To gain an advantage against the rabbits, creep up behind them to start the encounter and they'll lose roughly 5 HP before the fight even begins.
