Description
Update: February 7, 2008
«©NCSX» The year is 20XX and a gateway to another world has been discovered. Housed in a military facility, the Monolith Gate looks like a black crystal shard which is tended to by a gatekeeper named Gail. During an emergency situation at the facility one day, the hero Jay is pushed out of the way by a girl named May. In the confusion, May is shot by three nervous soldiers and she crumples to the ground like a rag doll. Since assault with a deadly weapon is unacceptable, the gatekeeper Gail uses his power to lift her body up and spirits away into the world of Idea. Jay soon follows them in a bid to save May from an uncertain fate.

Coded Soul is a 3D action-adventure game where Jay explores the military facility as well as the world of Idea in back-and-forth episodic jaunts. He can't stay in Idea for long and must return to his own world after a certain amount of time unless he can find areas which extend his stay. Once in Idea, Jay is gifted with a special power which allows him to bind monsters to his will by drawing their souls into himself. Once corralled, up to two beasts fight alongside Jay whenever the party is faced with enemy forces. The overall goal is to rescue May but a large number of sub-quests may be enjoined for added challenge.

Bonus Schwag
Early preorders (30% ratio) will ship with a bonus "Making of Coded Soul" booklet which chronicles the preparation and work that Kouji Okada's Gaia Studio put into developing the game.

NCS Game Notes
» Embark on a journey to the world of Idea to rescue a damsel in distress named May. Along the way, the feathery-haired hero named Jay corrals monsters and uses them to battle on his behalf. Dungeon crawling is the name of the game and over 100 types of monsters may be defeated and then yoked into your crew.

» Jay can tether up to two monsters to his party and roam the world of Idea with the bruisers in tow. When it's time for battle, an arena loads up where Jay and crew face off against enemies. Control and attacks are managed in realtime with the ability to run around and chop enemies.

» Supporting cast members include Lisa, Freeman, Estelle, and Gail. At the outset of the game, Jay enters the room from sliding doors and is greeted by a breathy May. The two talk with the dialogue accompanied by voice acting. A girl named Estelle walks up to the couple and greets them with an overly chipper attitude. After a short while, May leaves and Estelle senses that Jay likes May and bellows out, "Kawaii" to approve the pairing. After this point, Jay may be controlled and moved around the military installation. Head to the north and then towards the east and you'll eventually bump into a wheelchair-bound lad named Gail who's with May. After interacting with Gail, speak to May to set the next sequence of events in motion.

» Three armed soldiers enter the room which houses the Monolith Gate which is a portal into another world. In the control center, a countdown ensues but a series of unfortunate events causes the soldiers to shoot down May who sacrifices herself for Jay, the intended target. After May crumples to the ground, Gail uses telepathic force to lift up her body and proceeds to spirit her and himself into the Monolith Gate.

» Later, Jay goes to see Freeman about the matter and it's decided that Jay will go into the Monolith Gate and bring both May and Gail back. At first, Jay can't go into the gate without being repelled but a ethereal representation of Gail eventually grants him passage and Jay walks right into the gate. At this point, you'll be able to save your progress to memory stick.

» When Jay emerges from the gate, he's in a world named Idea and he calls out for Gail and May but they're nowhere to be found. The surroundings appear to be ruins with chunks of masonry dug halfway into the dirt an the head of a statue may be seen lying in the foreground. Head north and Jay will encounter a winged beast with horns on its head. Jay takes out his pistol and fires a few shots which does nothing to the beast. Ethereal Gail appears behind Jay and gives him a little advice before disappearing again. A sword materializes on the ground which Jay grabs and uses to attack the beast.

» An encounter screen pops up where Jay can be moved around. To attack, press the SQUARE button and to fire one single fireball, press the CIRCLE button. Once the fireball is shot, there's not enough power to fire off another one. After the encounter, Jay levels up and Gail appears again to provide guidance and companionship.

» Jay can strike twice in quick succession before he resets and about a second must pass before he can strike again.

» Jay can return to the military base by entering little portals located in the world of Idea which transport him back to his own world.
