Update: November 28, 2003 «©NCSX» Ten years ago, a Sega team dubbed AM2 led by Yu Suzuki started a 3-D movement that blazed the trail for a whole new way of fighting. Up until that time, Capcom and a number of copycats ruled the gaming world with a 2-D fist. Once Virtua Fighter debuted, the cloners soon found inspiration (some found entire blueprints and design pointers) and filled up the fighting market with their own 3-D offerings such as Toshinden, Zero Divide, Critical Blow and countless others that have since faded into obscurity. Capcom also entered the fray with the largely forgettable Star Gladiator and Street Fighter EX but their forte remains in 2-D fighting to this day. Fittingly then, Sega pays homage to the game that started it all. The 10th anniversary Virtua Fighter mook bundle includes a copy of PS2 Virtua Fighter 4 Evolution reworked with the blocky polygon graphics found in the original game and a retrospective DVD which looks back at the origins of the series, the subsequent games and memorable characters such as Pai, Shun Di and the Bryants. A mook (that's magazine-book) bundled with the two disks contains a bunch of artwork, interviews and data on the fighting game that took a 2-D genre dominated by Capcom and broadened it with 3-D scale and mechanics. All this goodness is then encased in a plastic slipcase for easy archival in your Virtua Fighter shrine. This document is ©NCSX 2003. All rights reserved.
