«©NCSX» The mightiest soccer simulation on the planet has enjoyed domination on the big consoles but there was never a portable gaming machine capable of handling its polish and refinement faithfully. Until now. The PSP churns its little CPU heart out running the smooth and beautifully animated action onscreen as soccer players wrangle, run, and strut on the field. Lifelike animations are the order of the day with close-up shots of players' antics when they've scored a goal. When the action gets intense on the field, the roar of the crowd intensifies to add to the excitement. The game features a total of 136 clubs from 57 nations represented with team uniforms clearly discernible on the PSP screen. The camera keeps a close eye on the action but an overhead map which shows the color-coded position of every player on the field is located directly below the main game screen for keeping tabs on team mates. Two players may link up for portable soccer competitions when the yen for footy strikes. The PSP version may also be linked to PS2 Winning Eleven 9 for data transfer and exchange of teams and players. Game modes include:
Match (Select teams, play at home or away, and enjoy a friendly match)
League (Start a season with the team of your choice)
Training (Practice passing, dribbling, and kicking with no opponents on field)
Edit (Check and edit country teams, player stats, etc)
Option (Connect to PS2, visit the WE Shop, set audio options, etc)
Wireless (Link to a fellow soccer fanatic and hit the field together) The intro to the game starts off with a little hand jive before the soccer players roll into action on the field with beautifully animated action of players jumping, kicking, exulting, and other actions. The cinema mixes some street soccer along with professionals doing their thing as the crowd chants in the background. We're impressed with the game this morning and we suppose that there will be many a fan hunched over their PSPs, studying it like a book, while intently kicking and passing in Konami's fine WE9 achievement.
