Update: December 15, 2005 «©NCSX» Fans of the Chiba Lotte Marines finally got to see some post-season action this year when their team swept the Hanshin Tigers to win the Japan Series. With the latest Powerful Pro Baseball, Konami updates the game to include new 2005 season data and the Marines' accomplishment in the Series. New features include the ability to create a baseball tune to energize the crowd and players, the return of the high-tech scoreboard in the Carp's Hiroshima Municipal Stadium, and a town building simulation where the ballpark serves as economic driver and impetus for new development. The baseball action is as solid as ever with a targeting cursor serving as location spotter for swings as well as pitches. The alternate SKU for this product is SLPM-62613. NCS Game Notes * Before the Konami logo appears, a picture featuring a gang of baseball players on a playground is flashed on screen. * The intro to the game features all of the teams in the Japanese professional league with logos screens that include team inception and their stadium name, league denomination, and big-headed players in action. The team animation is interspersed with crisp video of crowds, city streets, and other things apparently associated with besuboro. * A play-by-play announcer rattles off the pitches, hits, and strikeouts with excitement and rapid-fire elocution. The roar of the crowd rises and falls with the action and rally theme songs echo in the background when a team is threatening to score. * When batting, the pitcher is viewed dead-center on the screen but the catcher is also viewed on an inset window directly above the pitcher. It's a useful screen to check pitch location coupled with the targeting cursor that's directly in front of the batter. To change the cursor to an outline of a bat, hit the R2 trigger. There are a few training modes in the game to allow players to learn how to hit the ball, pitch, and field. * In the "Now Loading" screen, a lone baseball player fields balls and tosses them back after he's caught them. * Before each regulation game, the players run out onto the field as their team logos and the VS information is shown superimposed on the screen. The crowd cheers and chants begin as the action starts. Before the pitch, the crowd quiets down but scattered shouting by fans may be heard in the background above the general murmur and hum of the crowd. At the end of a game, it's not uncommon for a star player to be interviewed and photographed by reporters. * When a home run is smashed, the pitcher will look up and pivot around to watch it sail out of the park. The distance is calculated quickly on the upper right corner of the screen. The batter will also be shown rounding the bases in a victory trot as the announcer goes crazy. If a pitcher strikes a batter out with three straight pitches, the hitter will often spin around in a daze at the third pitch. If a pitcher gets hit hard, he'll appear dizzy on the mount with crazy eyes and a wobbly disposition. * Fielding is not automatic in the infield or the outfield. Your shortstop will actually have to run after balls and maneuver under any pop-ups that fly into his region. To dive after a hot shot, hit the X button and the shortstop will go horizontal to grab it. * In addition to the baseball action, there's also an interactive baseball rookie simulator where a player goes through the routine, training, and choices of becoming a professional player. Another baseball related game plays like a multiple choice adventure game. Each side game has its own title screen, menu options, and self-enclosed game world.
